What a Kobe Bryant debut ticket sells for depends on the year, not the grade

Three PSA FR 1.5 stubs from the 3 November 1996 game have sold at public auction. The first made $43,800 at Goldin in February 2022, on 42 bids. The next two made $11,285 and $10,065, in February and December 2025. Same game, same form, same number on the label, 77% less money in under four years. Every price below comes from the ten public sales of the Kobe Bryant debut ticket on record, five at Goldin and five at Heritage, July 2013 to December 2025, in the sold data we compile across Heritage, Goldin and Fanatics Collect. Grades are read from PSA rather than from auction titles, and the population was read live from PSA on 11 August 2026.

The game itself was a Sunday night at the Great Western Forum, printed on the ticket as game 2 of the Lakers' home season. Bryant was 18 years and 72 days old, the youngest player to appear in an NBA game at that point, and he played six minutes, missed the only shot he took, took one rebound and blocked one. Shaquille O'Neal scored 35 with 19 rebounds and the Lakers won 91-85. The ticket that records it is the most valuable thing in Bryant's ticket market: those ten sales total $237,504, a quarter of all the money spent on the 484 graded Kobe Bryant ticket sales we track, in a market whose median sale is $378.

Same label, four years apart

Grade is normally the first thing that sets a price, and on this ticket it barely registers. The PSA MINT 9 stub, the finest example of the debut stub in existence, made $44,400 in September 2022. Seven months earlier a PSA FR 1.5, five and a half grades below it, made $43,800. The gap between the best copy in the world and one of the worst was $600.

What does set the price is when the sale happened. Every one of the four sales in 2022 landed at $18,600 or more. Every sale before or since landed at $15,000 or less. That holds across Authentic, FR 1.5, GD 2 and MINT 9, so the year of sale sorts these results and the grade does not.

Ten sales, ten different certs

Not one of the 26 graded copies of the debut has come back to auction, so there is no like-for-like repeat sale of this exact ticket to read. The nearest thing sits three weeks earlier in Bryant's career: cert 63732979, the PSA VG 3 full ticket from the 18 October 1996 preseason game PSA catalogues as his first home game, sold at Heritage in September 2023 for $1,560 and at Fanatics Collect six months later for $1,320, down 15% with nothing about the slab changed.

Across the wider Kobe Bryant ticket market the sample is large enough to read properly. Fourteen slabs have sold two or more times in the data we track. Nine fell and five rose, and the median change was -10%. A Kobe ticket bought at auction and resold at auction has been roughly a coin flip that lands slightly short.

Two lots were catalogued as unique, and neither is

Heritage sold the full ticket in May 2022 as the only known full ticket, for $75,000. It is a $28.50 season seat, section 12, row 2, graded PSA GD 2, and it remains the highest price paid for a Kobe Bryant ticket of any kind. The claim on the lot has not survived. PSA's report now lists two full tickets from the game, and the second is graded NM-MT 8, six grades above the one that made $75,000. It has never been to public auction. It is the finest graded example of the Kobe Bryant debut ticket in any form, and it has no price.

The same thing happened three months earlier with a different Bryant first. In the February 2022 Heritage sale that produced Michael Jordan's $468,000 NBA debut full ticket and Jackie Robinson's $480,000 debut stub, Heritage sold a Kobe Bryant Professional Debut Full Ticket, the only known example for $40,800. That lot is the 13 July 1996 summer league game rather than the NBA debut, and PSA now records two of those as well, the second graded PSA NM 7.

The grades that have never been priced

The best Kobe Bryant debut stub PSA has graded: MINT 9, cert 66073016, a $28.50 season seat in section 30. It sold at Goldin in September 2022 for $44,400. It is the only 9, and the only stub of any kind above PSA 6. The cert immediately after it, 66073017, is a PSA EX-MT 6 from the same submission, so the top of this population was graded in one batch by one owner.

PSA splits the 3 November 1996 game into four catalogue items: the arena stub, the Ticketmaster stub, a trimmed Ticketmaster stub, and the full ticket. Together they come to 26 graded copies as of 11 August 2026, made up of 22 arena stubs, two Ticketmaster stubs and two full tickets. Ten of the 26 copies have sold in public, and between them they cover four grades: Authentic, FR 1.5, GOOD 2 and the single MINT 9. Nothing at PR 1, VG 3, VG-EX 4 or EX-MT 6 has ever been offered. That is 10 of the 22 arena stubs, including VG-EX 4, which is tied for the most common grade in the population with four copies and has no public price at all.

The population is small but it is not fixed, and the auction catalogues record the drift. Heritage described its August 2023 lot as pop two, five higher; that grade now holds three copies with nine above it. It described the December 2025 lot as pop 4 with 11 higher; as of 11 August 2026 there are 12 higher. Supply above GOOD 2 has almost doubled in three years, which is part of why the 2022 prices have not held.

Five games get sold as Kobe Bryant's first

Bryant played five games in 1996 that are catalogued and sold as a first, and only one of them is the NBA debut. The distinction is worth money in both directions. The summer league full ticket made $40,800, more than the NBA debut ticket has made in any sale since September 2022. A stub from a preseason game he did not play in made $2,280. We measured how this pattern behaves across the whole hobby in preseason and summer league debut tickets.

The 19 October line is the clearest warning in the table. A PSA GD 2 stub from a game Bryant watched from the bench made $2,280 in March 2022, and a PSA EX-MT 6 from the same game, four grades better, made $120 eight months later. Read the item description on the slab, not the word debut in the lot title.

The complete auction record

The current band, and the gaps in it

No Kobe Bryant debut ticket has sold in 2026. The working band comes from the last three results, all stubs: $11,285 for a PSA FR 1.5 in February 2025, $6,039 for the trimmed Authentic in September, and $10,065 for another FR 1.5 in December. A low-grade numbered stub, PR 1 through GOOD 2, is a $10,000 to $12,600 item today. That line has fallen from $15,000 in August 2023 to $10,065 in December 2025, about a third in 28 months, and each of the four numbered-grade stub sales in that run landed below the one before it.

The cheapest recorded way into the game. A trimmed Ticketmaster stub, Colonnade West, $28.50 plus the convenience charge, graded PSA Authentic and catalogued by PSA as its own item with a population of one. It sold at Goldin in September 2025 for $6,039 after 22 bids, which is 8% of the record and the lowest price the debut has fetched since 2013.

The parts of this market with no price are the parts a serious buyer wants. Nothing between VG 3 and EX-MT 6 has ever been offered, the MINT 9 has not been seen since 2022, and the PSA NM-MT 8 full ticket has never been sold at all. The $75,000 record was set on the only full ticket anyone has ever had the chance to bid on, and PSA now says it is the second-best one. Whenever that PSA 8 appears, it will be the first honest test this ticket has had since the market turned.
